Who Needs To File The IFTA?
All interstate carriers operating vehicles with a combined weight of over 26,000 pounds, or those with three or more axles and traveling across two or more jurisdictions, are required to file IFTA reports.
What Is The Due Date For Filing IFTA?

The due date for filing IFTA reports is the last day of the month following the end of each quarter. That is:

  • April 30th for the first quarter (January-March)
  • July 31st for the second quarter (April-June)
  • October 31st for the third quarter (July-September)
  • January 31st for the fourth quarter (October-December)
What Is The Penalty For Not Filing FTA?

The penalty for not filing IFTA reports or filing late is $50 or 10% of the net tax liability, whichever is greater, plus interest at a rate of 1% per month. Additionally, failure to file can result in your IFTA license being revoked and fines of up to $1,000 per day for each day you’re not in compliance.
